As our customer requested, we designed and built an immersive indoor playground that blends a fairytale narrative into play areas for the cafe, including an entrance & shoe-changing area, a bar supervised area, a puzzle wall play area, a soft-foam-pack sensory area for toddlers, a climbing area, and a core two-floor wooden play cafe structure.

 

 

Project Theory

Receiving this project, our designer transformed the activity room into a miniature fantasy forest world, telling a story from dawn to sunrise. The design aims to:

 

1. Allow children to get close to nature. Through abstract artistic representations of natural elements such as trees, hills, and rivers, children can experience the beauty of nature and cultivate ecological awareness while playing.

 

2. Awaken vitality and inspire exploration. Climbing equipment, slides, and crawling net systems provide diverse play experiences that bring lasting joy and encourage longer dwell time.

 

3. Career-themed role-play. Different social settings, such as supermarkets and fire stations, allow children to learn through role-playing, gaining knowledge of social norms, teamwork, and experiencing different professions in advance.

 

4. Suitable for children of different age groups. Distinct functional zones and fully covered soft-padded protection ensure the safety of children of all ages, especially young toddlers. From the gentle sensory zone to the stimulating climbing zone, it meets the needs of children at different developmental stages.

 

Functional Zone Description

 

Entrance and bar area

 

This achieves efficient management and safe monitoring of flow. There is a shoe-changing area set at the entrance. The bar area provides parents with a place to rest and drink. A broad perspective is beneficial for parents to keep an eye on their kids.

 

 

Puzzle Wall Play Area

 

Utilizing the back of the bar table and the wooden shoe cabinet, our design team sets interactive educational features such as a magnetic painting wall, a gear wall, and a fantastical track wall. It also includes animal-shaped chairs(shown in the picture) and comfortable beanbags. It provides a creative space for quiet kids to dive into painting, block building, and mind sparking, simultaneously, and an area for family reading and having a short rest.

 

 

Soft-foam sensory area

 

The space is enclosed by soft foam with smooth PU leather, with both the ground and the walls made of soft materials. A fun "planting farm" soft toys are set up under the central tree, and the walls are designed in the shape of undulating hills with soft covers, while the ground mimics the terrain's changes.

 

 

Climbing Area

 

Enter this area from the sensory area via the "Rainbow Steps". On one side is a soft-covered climbing wall that continues the shape of a hill, while on the other side is a climbing wall connected to the main wooden play cafe structures. The ground is fully covered with thick, soft mats to provide adequate protection for children.

 

 

This area serves as a transitional zone from the younger age group area to the higher-level playground, offering climbing challenges of moderate difficulty to exercise young children's upper body strength and hand-foot coordination, and seamlessly guiding them to the main play cafe structures.

 

Role-play Zone

 

This area is made of a two-layer wooden house structure, including a supermarket, kitchen, a fire station, hospitals, and a home scene, a mini fire truck suitable for multiple people to play on is parked in the central open space. One can reach the second floor via stairs, climbing points, or a rainbow bridge.

 

 

Main Wooden Play Area

 

The well-proportioned double-layer wooden structure features multiple ways to ascend: stairs, climbing nets, climbing points, and various slide exits with different fun elements (such as straight slides and spiral slides). It is the visual focal point and circulation hub of the space, which connects various areas. It encourages children to choose their own paths, developing spatial perception and an adventurous spirit as they move up and down.
